Sony, for all of its size, has never been a smartphone behemoth. This hasn't prevented it from introducing new products for its committed fan base. A week after seeing renderings of the Sony Xperia 1 IV, we now have a new look at another phone on the way from the firm, complete with bezels.
These renderings, courtesy of OnLeaks and Zoutons, show the future Xperia 10 IV with a similar appearance. The new phone resembles the Xperia 10 III in appearance, with a tall and thin 6-inch flat OLED display with those nostalgic bezels on the chin and forehead. They're not as large as they previously were, but they're still a far way from the sleek, fullscreen screens found on smartphones like the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The rear of the phone is quite straightforward, featuring a triple camera array, an LED flash, and the standard Sony Xperia logo. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the side, a 3.5mm headphone connection at the top — rejoice, wired headphones aficionados — and a USB-C port on the bottom. There are two front-firing speakers.
Despite its numerous similarities, the Xperia 10 IV differs from the 10 III in a key ways. For example, there is no distinct Google Assistant button – hardly a snub, given that there are so many methods to start Assistant that a physical control seems obsolete these days. However, a shutter button, such as the one found on the Xperia 1 series, would have been an appropriate substitute. When it comes to variations, probably the most evident is the frame. Sony appears to be following in the footsteps of Samsung and Apple, since the Xperia 10 IV has flat edges rather than rounded ones.
Under the hood of Sony's upcoming Xperia 10 IV will most likely be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 CPU, teamed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage on the basic model. It will be powered by a 4000mAh cell and will be available in Black, White, Mint Green, and Berry Blue. Pricing and release dates are yet unknown, but the new smartphone is slated to enter the market in mid-2022.
