OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - Physical Dimensions

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have similar dimensions, measuring 5.78 inches tall, 2.82 inches broad, and 0.3 inches thick. The Pro Max is larger, at 6.33 inches tall, 3.07 inches broad, and 0.3 inches thick.

In terms of size, the OnePlus 10 Pro falls somewhere between the two iPhones. With a height of 6.42 inches, it is taller than the Pro Max, but with a width of 2.91 inches, it appears to be narrower.

OnePlus, on the other hand, loses out because its thickness is 0.34 inches. When you read the amount, it doesn't sound like much, but it equates to a 13 percent difference in thickness, which your hands will surely notice.

OnePlus' device, despite being thicker, is lighter at 7.19 ounces, compared to the iPhone pair's 7.19 ounces and 8.46 ounces, respectively. This is most likely due to Apple's predilection for stainless steel against OnePlus's choice for aluminium.

Displays: OnePlus 10 Pro vs. iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

Both Apple and OnePlus have gone for OLED displays, with Apple's being dubbed a Super Retina XDR and OnePlus' being dubbed a "Fluid AMOLED with LPTO."

In terms of screen size, the OnePlus 10 Pro sports a 6.7-inch display. This implies it has a little more in common with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which has a 6.7-inch screen as well, than the iPhone 13 Pro, which has a 6.1-inch screen.

A second element that they have in common is refresh rates. Depending on the material being seen, Apple's ProMotion display may automatically alter the refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz.

The OnePlus 10 Pro uses the same auto-adjusting refresh rate method, but with a wider range of up to 120Hz and down to 1Hz. In addition, OnePlus claims that the technology allows its handset to utilise less power than competing 90Hz and 120Hz screens.

In addition, OnePlus claims to be the first smartphone company to adopt Dual Color Calibration. This implies that, rather than calibrating for a single brightness level, OnePlus calibrates for two levels: high and low.

In theory, this should make the OnePlus display's colour representation more consistent across a wider range of brightness levels.

In terms of resolution, OnePlus delivers a 3,216 by 1,440 image with a 20:9 aspect ratio and 526ppi pixel density. The aspect ratio, like the body, is slightly smaller than the Pro versions, which have a 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Neither the Pro nor the Pro Max can match the resolution, which is 2,532 by 1,170 on the Pro and 2,778 by 1,284 on the Pro Max. Below the OnePlus 10 Pro, this corresponds to pixel densities of 460ppi and 458ppi, respectively.

Aside from that, the OnePlus 10 Pro's display conceals a feature that isn't found on the iPhone. For biometric security, OnePlus incorporates a sub-display fingerprint reader.

Though it may not be as useful as Face ID, utilising a punch-hole camera instead of a massive notch allows OnePlus to avoid cutting into the display with a large notch.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - Cameras

While Apple takes pride in providing people with exceptional images and videos taken with the rear cameras, it usually achieves so by improving the image quality rather than increasing the resolution. When compared to the OnePlus 10 Pro, Apple's decision to keep the resolution low may not be advantageous.

The ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto cameras on the rear of both the Pro and Pro Max feature 12-megapixel sensors. Optical image stabilisation for two sensors is included, as is Sensor-Shift OIS for the Wide sensor, although the majority of the capabilities are computational photography-based.

On the back, Apple includes a LiDAR sensor that helps with focussing and feeds into its computational imaging. This is especially useful in low-light circumstances.

The OnePlus, like the iPhones, has a camera hump that wraps around the side in a fashionable design. You'll get three cameras this time, but there are some handy extras as well.

For starters, the cameras are identical to those seen on the previous OnePlus 9 Pro, with a 48MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP telephoto lens. The telephoto lens has a zoom of 3.3x, which is somewhat better than the iPhones' 3x.

Both the Wide and Telephoto lenses offer optical image stabilisation, with the latter also employing a laser autofocus mechanism. The Ultra-Wide has a field of view of up to 150 degrees, which is used in a new Fisheye Mode, but it defaults to a 110-degree field of view with AI distortion correction.

The collaboration between OnePlus and the renowned camera firm Hasselblad on its imaging technology is a crucial marketing aspect. The new system now lets all three back cameras to shoot in true 10-bit colour, thanks to Hasselblad's Natural Color Calibration, which covers over one billion colours.

It's even possible to shoot 12-bit RAW photographs with Hasselblad Pro Mode and a new RAW+ mode. All of these devices can take advantage of OnePlus' computational photography features.

The OnePlus 10 Pro offers a Movie Mode that allows aspiring videographers to change the ISO, white balance, and shutter speed while recording. The Movie Mode can also record in LOG format, which is useful for more advanced video projects.

Apple's iPhone 13 Pro series already includes ProRes and Dolby Vision 4K HDR compatibility, putting it on par with OnePlus' effort.

The iPhones are capable of recording 4K 60fps video with Dolby Vision compatibility, 4K ProRes 30fps video, and 240fps Slo-Mo video at 1080p.

The OnePlus 10 Pro goes even further, recording 8K footage at 30 frames per second. You can get 120fps footage in 4K, 60fps if you need HDR with Dolby Vision, and 1080p 240fps Slo-Mo in 1080p.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - Processing and performance

Apple is unique among smartphone manufacturers in that it creates its own chips for processing. The A15 Bionic processor and 6GB of memory are used in the iPhone 13 Pro.

Because OnePlus does not have its own chip design, it must rely on one from a third party. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor powers the OnePlus 10 Pro.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 contains one high-performance core, three mid-range cores, and four energy-saving versions, whereas the A15 has two high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores.

The A15 has its own five-core GPU created by Apple, whereas the Snapdragon has an Adreno 730 GPU. Both have machine learning capabilities, with Apple's Neural Engine taking precedence over Qualcomm's seventh-generation Qualcomm AI Engine.

OnePlus also offers extra RAM, with 8GB as standard and up to 12GB as an option.

Keep in mind that because Apple has more control over when and how apps run, iOS can accomplish a lot more with less RAM. This, in theory, equalises the situation.

While we know a lot about the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max in terms of benchmarks, the same cannot be said for the OnePlus. Geekbench has a plethora of benchmarks, with the iPhone scoring 1,694 for single-core performance, 4,643 for multi-core, and 14,218 for Metal.

The S22 Ultra scored 1,244 in the single-core test and 3,610 in the multi-core test in our Geekbench benchmark. This is significantly less than the A15 found in the iPhone 13 Pro.

While sources claim that Samsung is involved in an app slowing controversy, benchmark apps such as Geekbench are allowed to function at full speed. Still, until adequate benchmarks are published, you should take the comparison with a grain of salt at this time.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - Power

The OnePlus 10 Pro's capacity to hold charge is a standout feature. For starters, the 5,000mAh battery is massive for a smartphone; the iPhone 13 Pro has a 3,095mAh battery, while the Pro Max has a 4,352mAh battery.

OnePlus hasn't made any claims about the battery's longevity. Meanwhile, Apple claims that the iPhone 13 Pro can play video for up to 22 hours, while the Pro Max can play for up to 28 hours.

To put it another way, you're going to spend a lot of time on all three gadgets.

OnePlus makes a significant step forward in terms of restoring power to the smartphone.

When connected to a suitable power outlet through a cable, Apple allows for a maximum of 20W charging. If you use MagSafe, the maximum power lowers to 15W, and on Qi, it drops to 7.5W.

OnePlus employs a technology known as "SUPERVOOC Flash Charge." Aside from the odd nomenclature, the bundled 80W power adaptor can charge the smartphone from empty to full capacity in just 32 minutes.

There's also the equally horribly called "AirVOOC Wireless Flash Charge" if you don't want to use the cord. Even when using compatible accessories at a lower 50W, the flat-to-full charge time is still 47 minutes.

For example, the iPhone can be charged quickly with a 20W charger or higher, however it can only reach 50% charge in roughly half an hour. You'll also need to buy the charger separately.

OnePlus 10 Pro vs iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max - Storage and pricing

Both varieties of Apple's iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max come with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. There are four other colours to chose from as well.

The iPhone 13 Pro costs $999 for a 128GB model, $1,099 for a 256GB model, $1,299 for a 512GB model, and $1,499 for a 1TB device. The Pro Max editions are $100 more expensive, costing $1,099, $1,199, $1,399, and $1,599, respectively.

There are four different types accessible in China right now. However, because OnePlus has not provided pricing information, we must rely on a conversion from Chinese pricing.

In China, the 128GB capacity variant costs 4,699 yuan (about $745).

There are two memory options at the 256GB level. The 8GB RAM version costs 4,999 yuan (about $790), while the 12GB RAM version costs 5,299 yuan (roughly $840).

Finally, the 512GB storage variant comes with only 12GB of memory and costs 5,799 yuan (about $920).

Keep in mind that Western prices are likely to be greater than their Chinese counterparts. Sure, the 512GB model is less expensive than the cheapest iPhone 13 Pro, but that is unlikely to remain the case in other worldwide markets.

Seems great on paper

The OnePlus 10 Pro appears to be a really remarkable device based on its features. It's difficult to glance away from the prominent numbers, such as the camera sensors' and display's exceptionally high resolutions. In this situation, OnePlus also gets points for not having a large notch.

However, there's still a world of difference between bigger, better figures and real-life usage if you think about it. Sure, a 48-megapixel sensor can snap photos, but it's another thing entirely for it to use computational photography to create stunning images.

The outstanding high-wattage charging has the same issue. It's fantastic that you can recharge the battery for the same amount of time as you'd watch a TV show, but it also appears to be overkill.

If you only charge your smartphone overnight, it's pointless to be concerned about it charging in minutes rather than hours.

Then there's the whole debate over whether to use Android or Apple's ecosystem, but that's a more personal debate than this essay can handle.

On paper, the OnePlus 10 Pro is a capable smartphone. It's undoubtedly capable of giving the iPhone 13 Pro and Max a run for their money in terms of specifications.

It needs to be seen whether this translates into higher performance in real-world situations. When ours arrives, we'll let you know how it goes.
