In recent years, MediaTek has experienced rapid expansion in the smartphone chipset industry. Although it appears that the rise was not limited to its market share, but also to the performance of its chip.
While Qualcomm is one of MediaTek's main competitors, the Taiwanese chipmaker may have its sights set even higher. Ice Universe, a well-known leaker, recently shared a GeekBench listing of the brand's latest flagship Dimensity 9000 SoC, which performed admirably. As of now, the chipset is the company's most powerful SoC ever, outperforming even Qualcomm's current-generation flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, in several benchmarks.
Although no smartphones have been released using the new processor, numerous manufactures will be delivering their devices shortly. According to Ice Universe's GeekBench listing, the Xiaomi smartphone (which might be the forthcoming Redmi K50 Pro+) got 1309 points in the single core test and 4546 points in the multi core testing. In comparison, the Exynos 2200 on the Galaxy S22 series received 1157 and 3307 points. Similarly, the Google Tensor chip on the Pixel 6 Pro received just 1042 and 2832 points in the same tests.
So, with a score of 1734 in the single core test and 4818 in the multi core test, the Apple A15 Bionic is the only chipset that decisively beats the Dimensity 9000 SoC. Keep in mind that synthetic benchmarks only show raw performance and do not reflect how the chipset will perform in real-world scenarios. But it's still amazing that MediaTek managed to surpass Qualcomm, which is normally the go-to chipset for premium Android phones, and get close to Apple's top SoC.
