Honor introduced two mid-range smartphones in December of last year: the Honor 60 and Honor 60 Pro. The business is now selling Honor Code, a new version of the pro model that is practically the same phone but with one notable modification on the back panel.

When you put two Honor 60 Pro models side by side, the first thing you notice is how different they look from the rear. The new Code model is composed of electrochromic glass, similar to the OnePlus Concept One, which made headlines more than two years ago. Instead of a glass strip, the Code is covered with the letters H, O, N, O, and R.

The appearance serves a function. The letters flash based on the rhythm of incoming calls, reminders, alarms, and alerts, according to XDA Developers – and the whole thing is configurable from the device settings. It's like a fantastic party trick that gets everyone talking while still keeping you up to date on your newest communications.

The original invention, on the other hand, does not appear to be a flop. The Frost Crystal-colored variant's back cover features a shimmering look that is accented by luminous lines in the shape of light rays.

The Honor 60 Pro features a 6.78-inch FHD+ OLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus SoC, as well as 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It also has a large 4,800mAh battery and supports 66W rapid charging. The camera system on the phone has a triple-lens configuration on the back with 108MP main, 50MP ultra-wide, and 2MP depth sensors, as well as a single 50MP shooter on the front.

The Honor 60 Pro ships with Magic UI 5.0, which is based on Android 11. It has 5G connectivity, an in-display fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. Unlike the original, the Honor Code only comes in a 12GB + 256GB option for almost $4000. Unfortunately, you can't buy any of these dazzling devices since they haven't yet been released outside of China.

The Code colorway appears to be becoming a ritual for the firm, since it developed a similar variety for the Honor 50 series, which debuted earlier this year. It will be fascinating to see if this approach is carried over to devices in 2022.
