On Android 12, the Google Play Store has already undergone a major Material You makeover, with its UI pulling colours based on your wallpaper (at least on phones like the Pixel 6 and other Google devices, the Galaxy S22, and a few more). The Play Store's design, on the other hand, hasn't quite arrived in the current day, with its square buttons, in particular, falling short of Google's newest Material Design principles. The business appears to want to alter that, as it has been found working on adding sleek new pill-shaped buttons to the app distribution platform.
According to a 9to5Google APK breakdown of the current Play Store version, rounded pill-shaped buttons are almost ready to be distributed to consumers. While the classic square buttons are still available by default for most (if not all) customers, it's evident that the firm is planning to make the new appearance available to all users. 9to5Google was able to activate the new buttons in their version of the Play Store before of schedule, and they truly give the Play Store a more whimsical, less rigid aesthetic.
When enabled, the rounded buttons appear across the UI, including the Install, Update, and Uninstall buttons on an app's listing and the Update and Update all shortcuts in the Pending downloads overview. Surprisingly, the chips for filters such as Installed, Updates available, and Games in the Manage applications & device overview have lost their pill-shaped shape and have taken on a squared appearance. This change is intended to better distinguish between filters and buttons and is consistent with other Google products such as Gmail and Photos.
As an example, consider the current appearance.
The UI change has yet to be rolled out to users, and it hasn't been noticed in the wild as far as we know. However, considering that the appearance already appears to be completed based on the screenshots, we wouldn't be shocked if Google didn't take long to activate them for everyone.
