According to a source, Apple's speculated revamp of the MacBook Air would arrive later in 2022, with improvements to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros also expected in 2023.

Rumors circulated prior to the "Peek Performance" event that Apple will unveil new MacBook models, including an update to the MacBook Air family and potentially some MacBook Pro upgrades. Following the absence of Macbooks at the event, the focus has shifted to when such things will be available.

On Sunday, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in his "Power On" email that Apple planned to release a MacBook Air towards the end of 2021 or the beginning of 2022. Unfortunately, the launch window appears to have shifted into the third or fourth quarter.

This is consistent with recent speculations indicating that a MacBook Air would be released later in 2022. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo made a similar prediction about the timing in mid-March, predicting a third-quarter release.

The redesigned MacBook Air should come in a variety of colours, as well as the M2, as well as be smaller and lighter. The display is also likely to alter, with speculations of micro LED illumination and the usage of a notch for the FaceTime camera.

While there has been some speculation about revisions to the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the future, with the release of an entry-level "M2" MacBook Pro, there might be a lengthy wait. Gurman does not anticipate any updates to the high-end versions in 2022, with "M2 Pro" and "M2 Max" variants appearing in 2023.

Gurman believes that the only upgrade for 2022 should be a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M2 processor.

Gurman predicted in February that Apple will release at least seven new Mac models across the board in 2022. An upgraded Mac mini with M1 Pro and M2 enhancements, a MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2, an M2 24-inch iMac, a larger iMac Pro with M1 Pro and Max, and an Apple Silicon revamp of the Mac Pro were all on the list.
