Although the Apple event is only a few hours away, a new report has surfaced that has details on the impending iPad Air. The company's own silicon, the M1 series chipset, is expected to be used in the newest generation of iPad Air.

For those who aren't aware, the Cupertino-based company is slated to launch a slew of new items on March 8. This includes the iPhone SE 3, the company's newest inexpensive iPhone, a new Mac mini, the 5th generation iPad Air, and potentially even a new external display. A new MacRumors rumour has provided even more details about the forthcoming iPad generation. The fifth-generation iPad Air will come with an M1 chip, just like the iPad Pro in 2021.

According to prior speculations, the next iPad Air would be equipped with the A15 chip, which allows 5G networking, similar to the iPad mini. However, it appears that the company will just ship it with an M1 chip, putting it in line with its higher-end iPad models. Apple may, however, opt out of some of the premium iPad's features. In other words, the iPad Air won't have the ProMotion display technology or the LiDAR sensor on the back camera module seen on the iPad Pro.

In terms of the processor itself, the M1 chipset has an 8-core CPU over the A15 SoC's 6-core CPU. As a result, the iPad Air will outperform any iPad model based on the A15 processor. Today, March 8, 2022, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, the firm will begin their "Peek Performance," so stay tuned as we will be documenting the event.
