The iPad Air (2022) was unveiled on Tuesday (March 8) at a virtual Apple event, alongside the much-anticipated iPhone SE (2022). The new iPad Air is powered by Apple's M1 processor, which is currently available on iPad Pro versions and is used in Mac computers. In addition to the improved CPU, the iPad Air (2022) has an enhanced front-facing camera that supports Center Stage, a software feature that debuted on the iPad Pro and iPad mini last year. The fifth-generation iPad Air, on the other hand, retains the same design that debuted on the previous model in 2020.
iPad Air (2022) price in India, availability
The Wi-Fi-only 64GB edition of the iPad Air (2022) costs Rs. 54,900 in India, while the Wi-Fi + cellular variant with 64GB storage costs Rs. 68,900. The new iPad Air is also available in 256GB Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + cellular editions, the prices of which have yet to be announced.
The iPad Air (2022) is available in Blue, Space Grey, Starlight, Pink, and Purple colours and will be available in 29 countries, including the United States, beginning March 18. The new model will also be available for pre-order in India and other early regions beginning Friday, March 11. The model is now available at the Apple Store in India, and Amazon India has added a Notify Me option.
The iPad Air (2022) will be released in the United States with a starting price of $599. (roughly Rs. 46,100). This is the same as the previous iPad Air model.
The iPad Air (2020) was released in 2020, with the Wi-Fi-only 64GB variant beginning at Rs. 54,900. The iPad Air (2020) Wi-Fi + cellular variant with 64GB storage cost Rs. 66,900, while the 256GB model cost Rs. 80,900.
iPad Air (2022) specifications
The iPad Air (2022) is powered by iPadOS 15. It has the same 10.9-inch LED-backlit Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2360x1640 pixels as the variant announced in 2020. The display has a peak brightness of up to 500 nits, a P3 wide-color gamut, and True Tone white balance compatibility. On top of that, the display has an anti-reflective coating. Touch ID functionality is also included into the power/standby button on the new iPad Air. The iPad Air (2022) is outfitted with an octa-core M1 CPU and 8GB of RAM from Apple.
The M1 processor is said to provide up to 60% quicker CPU performance and two times better graphics performance than the previous iPad Air. In addition, the in-house processor has Apple Neural Engine for native artificial intelligence (AI) processing.
On the iPad Air (2022), Apple has included a 12-megapixel Wide back camera with an f/1.8 lens, which is the same as what was available on the previous iteration. Autofocus with Focus Pixels, Panorama (up to 63-megapixel), Smart HDR 3, Photo geotagging, Auto image stabiliser, and Burst mode are among the capabilities supported by the camera. It also supports 4K video recording at 24, 25, 30, and 60 frames per second. Slow-motion footage in 1080p at 120fps or 240fps is also supported by the camera.
The new iPad Air also includes a 12-megapixel Ultra Wide front camera with machine learning capabilities, which helps optimise the camera perspective while using apps like FaceTime. The camera comes with an f/2.4 lens with a 122-degree field of view.
The iPad Air (2022) has storage capacities of 64GB and 256GB. 5G (optional), Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5, GPS/ A-GPS (in cellular version only), and a USB Type-C connection are among the connectivity choices. An ambient light sensor, a barometer, and a three-axis accelerometer are among the sensors on board.
Apple Pencil (2nd generation) compatibility has been added to the new iPad Air, allowing users to create sketches while on the go. There is also support for Magic Keyboard, which uses a floating design and built-in touchpad on the detachable keyboard to provide a notebook-like computing experience.
Regarding battery life, Apple states that the iPad Air (2022) has a "all-day battery life." A 28.6Wh lithium-polymer battery is rated to provide up to 10 hours of Wi-Fi Web surfing or video streaming. The Wi-Fi + Cellular model, on the other hand, is said to provide up to nine hours of Web browsing on a single charge.
The new iPad Air's built-in battery enables rapid charging, and a 20W USB-C power converter is included in the retail package.
The iPad Air (2022) is 247.6x178.5x6.1mm in size and weighs 461 g (Wi-Fi alone) or 462 g (Wi-Fi + Cellular). The proportions are very similar to the previous iPad Air model.
