When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung has been one of the top smartphone companies, and as an early entry, it essentially launched a new category of products in the market.

The South Korean conglomerate's early investment looks to have paid off, as the business currently dominates the foldable smartphone industry.

According to a recent research from analytics firm Omdia, Samsung will account for more than 61 percent of the market share for the shipping of foldable smartphones in 2021. It also stated that five of the top eleven foldable gadgets on the market are manufactured by Samsung.

According to the research, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 was the most popular foldable smartphone, with around 4.6 million devices delivered. This is quite an accomplishment for the South Korean-based technology behemoth, as it has managed to raise shipments of Galaxy Z Flip from 1.1 million devices in 2020.

Apart from making some modest but major adjustments to the Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphone in response to lessons learned from its predecessor, the business also priced it much lower than its predecessor, roughly $400 less, which aided sales.

On the other side, the business reduced the price of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 by $200 when compared to its predecessor, bringing the device down to $1,799, resulting in a massive increase in sales from 700,000 units in 2020 to 2.5 million units in 2021.

According to the Omdia data, the combined shipments of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 smartphones amount for 7.1 million units, or more than 61 percent of overall phone shipments. It is predicted that Samsung's products would account for more than 70% of the worldwide foldable smartphone market this year.
