Huawei has submitted yet another patent for what looks to be a smartphone with an under-screen front camera. The phone appears to feature almost no bezels and a display that appears to be curved on at least two corners.
The patent (through IT Home) also contains many photos of the gadget, demonstrating its design from various perspectives. While most phones today, at least those that aren't made of plastic, have bodies with a frame and a rear cover, the Huawei phone in the patent appears to have a rear cover that wraps around the whole body. This should provide a very smooth in-hand feel, however it's unknown if the cover will be made of plastic, glass, or metal.
The photos are united by an abstract that doesn't explain much, simply disclosing that the device in question is mostly used for network connectivity, phone conversations, transaction processing, and other similar functions.
Overall, the back of the phone resembles the HUAWEI nova 9 SE, which is anticipated to be released later this month, with a curved design that incorporates an extended, oval-shaped camera island. The phone's front is clear of impediments and should deliver a fantastic viewing experience.
Having said that, this isn't the first time Huawei has alluded to the continuing development of a phone with an under-display front camera. The most recent patent with such a design was issued just last month, for a smartphone unlike anything we've seen before. What remains to be seen is when these on-paper concepts will become a reality.
