Huawei introduced the MatePad Paper last month as one of its products to be shown at the Mobile World Congress 2022. The tablet was expected to arrive in China later in March. True to rumours, the Huawei MatePad Paper will be available in China on March 16. The product will be unveiled on that day at the Huawei Whole House Smart and Full Scene New Product Spring Launch Conference.

The Huawei MatePad Paper is a grayscale tablet/e-book reader with a 10.3-inch LCD screen. The display has an aspect ratio of 227 PPI and a resolution of 1872 x 1404 pixels. The e-ink display has additional characteristics such as an anti-glare and reflective screen for low-light use, as well as 32 levels of illumination.

As an e-book reader, the device has reduced bezels on the top, bottom, and right sides, while the left edge is somewhat broader to simulate the appearance of an open book. Because of the smaller bezels, the smartphone has an 86.3 percent screen-to-body ratio.

In terms of processing power, the MatePad Paper is equipped with a Hexa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The device is compatible with Huawei's M-Pencil (second generation), which was introduced with its high-end tablets. Thus, you can take notes, annotate, edit books and other documents. The screen is well responsive to the stylus as Huawei tweaked the sensitivity of the textured screen. The M-Pencil has a pressure sensitivity of 4096 levels and a delay of 26ms.

The e-ink tablet runs HarmonyOS 2, which includes features such as the ability to seamlessly connect the tablet to Huawei's laptops, PCs, tablets, and phones. The connection is in the shape of a USB disc, although it is wireless, due to inbuilt WiFi 6+ and Bluetooth 5.2 capability. As a result, you can effortlessly transfer notes and PDFs between devices.

A 3625mAh battery powers the device and is said to provide up to 28 days of standby time. It also has 22.5W rapid charging, which Huawei says may provide up to 6 days of reading time with only a 1.5-hour charge. It is capable of reverse charging. The smartphone also has fingerprint recognition since the power button also functions as a sensor.

The MatePad Paper comes with an M-Pencil and a protective sleeve. The tablet is priced at €499 in Europe. We anticipate that China price will be somewhat cheaper.
