Google is attempting to boost support for its Chat and Spaces platforms as Hangouts nears its end of life. Gmail for Android has also received an upgrade, which includes new status bar icons that assist users distinguish between Chat and Spaces.
New message alerts for Google Messaging (essentially a chat tool similar to WhatsApp) and Spaces (a Slack-like platform) were identical. On the status bar, notifications were displayed as a filled-in message bubble with another one behind it. But, thanks to a revision in status bar icons, the Search Engine Giant is now attempting to make the two platforms more different from one another (Via 9To5Google).
The Chat app now features a single highlighted message bubble with an empty interior. On the other side, three persons will now be standing close to each other in Spaces. To put it another way, the corporation uses the status bar's bottom bar tab icons as well. This complements the Gmail email icon and even adds a quality of life boost by allowing people, such as professional enterprise users, to easily determine which platform the message belongs to.
The new status bar icons have so far only been seen on a single Android smartphone running Gmail version 2022.02.20.x. At the present, this build isn't generally available. However, we may expect to see the update in more smartphones in the not-too-distant future. Notably, the change occurs as of this month, when Gmail for iOS begins to display the Chat sender's profile photo.
