There's nothing worse than purchasing a new flagship Android gadget only to discover that software limitations prevent it from performing at its best. Although Samsung's Galaxy S22 series is powered by some really strong technology, as we learned yesterday, the corporation throttles its handsets when playing popular gaming games, among other apps. Geekbench is now taking immediate action against Samsung in reaction to their dishonest results.

Geekbench has informed us that the whole Galaxy S22 series, as well as all S21, S20, and S10 smartphones, will be removed from the Geekbench Browser as of today. The Galaxy Note and A-series devices will be unaffected because they did not appear to be affected in testing. This action follows complaints that the GOS software in One UI 4 throttles hundreds of apps in order to maintain performance and enhance battery life. We confirmed a considerable loss in performance while spoofing Genshin Impact in our independent tests.

The following statement was supplied by Geekbench:

Earlier this week, we were made aware of Samsung's Game Optimizing Service (GOS) and how it throttles the performance of games and applications. GOS decides to throttle (or not to throttle) applications using application identifiers and not application behavior. We view this as a form of benchmark manipulation as major benchmark applications, including Geekbench, are not throttled by this service.

Samsung has stated that a future update would include the option to directly manage gaming performance. However, Geekbench's current policy is to keep manipulated devices delisted indefinitely, even if a patch that solves the vulnerability is released, therefore none of the phones deleted today will be relisted on the site. Samsung did not specify a timeline for when this update will be available to consumers.

It's not the first time Geekbench has removed gadgets from its list of benchmarks. In reaction to OnePlus slowing applications on the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, the service removed both devices from its browser last year.
