In January, the OnePlus 10 Pro made its worldwide premiere in China. It is the first OnePlus Pro series phone to be released in the company's native country. It is also the first device to launch with ColorOS 12.1 installed. Two months later, one of the company's execs explains when the last-generation OnePlus flagship devices would be updated to the new ColorOS version.

The head of the OnePlus product portfolio, Liu Fengshuo, confirmed on Weibo that the OnePlus 9 and Oneplus 9 Pro from last year will be upgraded to ColorOS 12.1 shortly. According to him, these handsets will acquire the most recent version of OPPO's mobile operating system, which is based on Android 12, before the end of March.

According to his message, the upgrade is still in the works. As a result, if there are any difficulties with the software builds, the distribution may be delayed. OnePlus is infamous for software blunders these days, so hopefully that doesn't happen.

Having said that, the ColorOS 12.1 upgrade for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro will only be available in China. Because it is the only country in which these phones utilise ColorOS rather than OxygenOS. In fact, these are the first OnePlus-branded smartphones to come pre-installed with ColorOS.

In terms of new features, ColorOS 12.1 includes HyperBoost technology for gaming, AI features for a smoother experience, and other small improvements.
