Nothing, the UK-based business owned by OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei, will conduct a virtual event on March 23 to discuss its 2019 product plan. Although the event's formal details have yet to be released, the corporation is expected to unveil its aspirations to enter the smartphone industry. Nothing also announced a fresh $70 million (about Rs. 534 crore) financing round headed by EQT Ventures and C Ventures.
Nothing's virtual event, dubbed "The Truth," will take place at 2 p.m. GMT (7:30pm IST). On the company's website, attendees may sign up to get event alerts.
Nothing CEO and Co-Founder Carl Pei remarked in a news release, "Our first year was a warmup, and we can't wait to unveil what we're developing at Nothing during the next event."
Nothing is expected to release its first phone with a transparent design in April. Pei teased the Nothing phone in cryptic tweets last month. In a photo leaked by tipster Evan Blass, the executive was also seen showing off a phone to Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
The current investment round, which also included GV, Tony Fadell's Future Shape, Gaorong Capital, and Animoca Brands, is intended to develop the product ecosystem and build the London Design Hub, according to a press release from the firm.
Nothing has now raised a total of $144 million with its new investment (roughly Rs. 1,100 crore). However, the company's exact worth has not yet been disclosed.
Nothing said that the funds will be used to develop new product categories in collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and its Snapdragon platform. San Diego-based Qualcomm and its Snapdragon processors are well-known for powering Android handsets.
Nothing began its adventure as a tech firm last year with the release of the Ear 1 true wireless stereo (TWS) earphones. To far, the business claims to have shipped over 400,000 units of the earphones. It attracted customers mostly because of its translucent design, which would soon be seen on its phone.
Nothing purchased Essential in February of last year, the smartphone business founded by Android founder Andy Rubin and which released a single phone in 2017.
