According to 9to5Mac's Filipe Espósito, who cites sources familiar with the matter, Apple is working on a new "Apple Studio Display" with a 7K resolution. The display is also expected to include an Apple silicon chip.

According to the source, it's unclear if the display will be a replacement for Apple's Pro Display XDR or a new addition to the company's standalone display collection. Additional information, such as the size of the display and a release date, are yet unclear.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman was the first to disclose that Apple was developing at least one new external display, although he stated that the display would be less expensive and have a lower brightness and contrast ratio. According to the specifications, the new 7K model would be placed above the Pro Display XDR in the range, implying that Apple intends to provide screens at various price points, as it did with its Cinema Display portfolio in the 2000s.

In December 2019, Apple announced the Pro Display XDR for $4,999, with an optional $999 stand. The 32-inch display has a 6K resolution, a peak brightness of 1,600 nits for HDR content, a 10-bit depth for 1.073 billion colours, and a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
