The Apple "Peek Performance" event may include a new high-resolution Mac display, as well as the long-rumored Mac mini upgrade with an M2 processor.
The March 8 event is slated to feature a number of product updates from a variety of sectors. According to a Sunday storey, this may include a high-end Mac mini and a monitor.
While rumours appeared in March that Apple was working on a 7K resolution "Apple Studio Display," Mark Gurman's "Power On" newsletter for Bloomberg indicates it may make an appearance.
Critics, according to Gurman, should not "rule out Apple showing its next-generation external display" during the event since "Apple really completed development on it months ago." In terms of timing, it was supposedly "due to launch" following the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro releases in 2021.
Along with the predicted display, a developer source claims that Apple has tested "several Macs with a new processor," which has an eight-core GPU and ten GPU cores. This is thought to be the same kind of specification as the M2 chip speculations.
Apple appears to have tested the chip on Macs running macOS 12.3, which Gurman anticipates will be available in a week or two.
While Gurman believes a Mac mini upgrade will be issued on Tuesday, future Macs such as an iMac Pro or Mac Pro update are unlikely. Apple, on the other hand, may want to "sample at least one of those computers ahead of a release later this year."
What to expect at Apple's spring event
Apple is expected to release a slew of speculated goods in 2022. While some are expected later in the year, such as the annual autumn "iPhone 14" upgrade, there are a number of goods that might be unveiled at this early presentation.
The iPhone SE will most likely be the major emphasis, with a third-generation smartphone slated to have 5G connection for the first time. According to speculations, it will have improved specs while maintaining the same design as the second-generation model, which has a 4.7-inch touchscreen and Touch ID.
The iPad Air 5 is also rumoured to be a likely contender for the event, with comparable feature updates as the iPad mini 6, including an upgrade to the A15 Bionic processor. 5G connection was also mentioned, as well as an update to the FaceTime HD camera to a 12-megapixel ultra-wide version with Center Stage compatibility.
On the Mac side, a redesigned Mac mini is a strong contender for launch, with the M1 slated to be upgraded to the M1 Pro and M1 Max. It is also likely to get a substantial design overhaul, including a slimmer chassis, additional ports on the rear, and a magnetic power connector.
The speculated bigger Apple Silicon iMac might possibly appear, replacing the 27-inch Intel variant and potentially resurrecting the iMac Pro brand. In terms of physical appearance, the model will most likely resemble the 24-inch iMac and will include ProMotion and tiny LED for the display, among other modifications.
The iMac Pro may also benefit from a big M1 chip upgrade, with one leaker claiming that a fourth variation of the Apple Silicon chip generation, replete with a 12-core CPU, might be employed.
