Apple has released macOS Monterey 12.3.1, a minor upgrade to the operating system that debuted in October. macOS Monterey 12.3.1 arrives two weeks following the release of macOS Monterey 12.3, which included Universal Control.

The macOS Monterey 12.3.1 update is available for all eligible Macs via the Software Update section of System Preferences.

According to Apple's release notes, macOS Monterey 12.3.1 includes a fix that may cause Bluetooth devices, such as gaming controllers, to detach from the Mac after listening to audio through certain Beats headphones. It also fixes a fault that might cause USB-C or Thunderbolt external displays to switch off when attached as a secondary display to the 2018 Mac mini.

The following problems have been resolved by this update:

  • - When connected to a Mac mini (2018) as a secondary display, a USB-C or Thunderbolt external display does not turn on.
  • - Bluetooth devices, like as gaming controllers, may detach from your Mac after listening to music with select Beats headphones.

In addition, macOS Monterey 12.3.1 fixes two vulnerabilities: an AppleAVD problem that might let an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges and an Intel Graphics Driver issue that could allow an application to access kernel memory.

According to Apple, these weaknesses may have been aggressively exploited, thus all customers should upgrade as soon as possible.

The macOS Monterey update was released today alongside iOS 15.4.1, iPadOS 15.4.1, tvOS 15.4.1, watchOS 8.5.1, and new 15.4.1 software.
