We revealed earlier this week that Apple may be working on a new MacBook model with a 15-inch display. While it was previously assumed that this was a MacBook Air model, a fresh report suggests otherwise.
According to well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new 15-inch MacBook will not be part of the Cupertino-based company's MacBook Air line. For those who are unaware, we previously reported that Apple was intending to release a new MacBook with a bigger 15-inch display to compete with the 13-inch MacBook Air. Furthermore, according to the earlier source, this model will be introduced sometime next year. However, according to Kuo's tweet, it may not be part of the Air lineup.
While the expert stated that it is not a MacBook Air, he did not specify what the 15-inch model will be called in the end. However, Apple has used the term "MacBook" for its notebooks that are not part of the Pro or Air series. This series, however, was discontinued in 2019, with the last model being a 12 inch MacBook. As a result, it's very feasible that this name may reappear for the next 15-inch version, or that it will be replaced totally by another brand.
Kuo also stated that, despite the bigger display, the brand intends to use the same 30W power adaptor for the MacBook Air as a power source. Although a bigger panel normally consumes more power, he stated in the tweet that the design objective is to use the same 30W power adaptor as the MacBook Air. "Based on what we know so far, this model is expected to debut in 2023, and Kuo expects that mass production will begin in the fourth and final quarter of next year, assuming all goes well."
