We may have a better idea of when Apple's iPhone Fold will be available.

If you're hoping for a foldable iPhone from Apple, you might have to wait a few years. According to a recent DSCC analysis, Apple's anticipated iPhone Fold may not be released until 2025 at the earliest. Previous rumours said that the film will be released in 2023.

According to DSCC, who cites supply chain sources, Apple is not in any hurry to create an iPhone Fold anytime soon. This should come as no surprise considering Apple's proclivity for delaying entry into new markets.

Apple has never been preoccupied with pushing a product to market before it's ready and feature-complete, as seen by the debut of the iPod and iPhone years ago. As a result, while Samsung has had some little success with their foldable cellphones, it is still a very small market. It makes more sense for Apple to take a "wait and see" strategy.

What to expect from an iPhone Fold

Assuming that Apple will release a foldable iPhone in the next years, what can we anticipate from such a device?

According to Apple leaker Jon Prosser, Apple's anticipated iPhone Fold would have "two independent display panels on a hinge" and "round, stainless steel edges" like the iPhone 11. Furthermore, Prosser claims that the gadget will not have a notch. Instead, the display will be housed behind a "small forehead," which would hold a suite of sensors, including Face ID.

Prosser commented a few months back, "The memes are entertaining." "However, it doesn't appear like they just glued two phones together." Despite the fact that they are two independent panels, when the displays are stretched, they appear very continuous and seamless."

A release date is not for certain

As fascinating as this is, the above prognosis should be taken with a grain of salt. For starters, the iPhone Fold's rumoured release date is years away. Needless to say, a lot may happen in that time frame.

Furthermore, it has been reported that Apple is working on many iPhone Fold prototypes. In other words, there's no sign that Apple has settled on a definitive form factor. Furthermore, Apple is apparently concerned that foldable smartphones may be a transitory fad rather than a form factor that will be here to stay.

Apple is absolutely working on and testing various prototypes with folding displays for individuals who are interested in a foldable iPhone. However, there are still too many sacrifices with foldable display technology. There are also doubts over whether foldable cellphones will remain viable in the market or succumb to obsolescence. As a result, Apple is bent on closely monitoring the market and learning from their competitors' missteps. While other manufacturers are iterating on devices that appear to be in beta, Apple is intent on ensuring that the design does not deviate from the iPhone's existing form factor. They want to play the long game and observe how technology evolves.
