After months of silence, ASUS has finally disclosed the launch date for the ASUS 8z (Globally known as ASUS Zenfone 8) in India. The phone was first released in May 2021 as a replacement to the 7 series and features top-of-the-line specs. The device will be released in India on February 28th at 12 p.m. IST, with the event being live-streamed on the ASUS YouTube channel. Last year, it was meant to be presented in India, but the COVID-19 outbreak and supply chain issues seems to have pushed the introduction back. As we get closer to seeing phones using Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipsets in India, it'll be interesting to see if the ASUS 8z finds any takers.
Specifications for the ASUS 8z
The ASUS 8z has a 5.9-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with HDR10, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate, 1100nits brightness, 20:9 aspect ratio, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. 5G, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, USB Type-C, and NFC are among the connectivity options.
For security, the phone has an in-display fingerprint sensor, an IP68 grade for water and dust protection, a 4000mAh battery with 30W fast charging, and Quick Charge 4 support.
The handset's optics include a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, as well as a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with macro mode, dual PD autofocus, and an f/2.2 aperture. On the front, there's a 12MP Sony IMX663 selfie camera with dual PD autofocus. The phone has a proprietary ZenUI 8 shell on top of Android 11 and comes with up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of extendable UFS 3.1 storage.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G SoC is combined with the Adreno 660 GPU in the ASUS 8z. A 3.5mm audio connection, stereo speakers, dual Cirrus Logic CS35L45 amplifier, Dirac HD sound, Hi-Res Audio, Triple microphones with OZO Audio Zoom & ASUS Noise Reduction Technology, and FM Radio are included.
