HIGHLIGHTS
- The WhatsApp global voice message player is now only accessible on iOS, with update 22.4.75.
- The feature to suspend voice message recording was recently added to WhatsApp for iOS.
The new global voice message player for WhatsApp is only available on iOS. Users will be able to "play voice messages and audio files outside of conversations" with WhatsApp for iOS v22.4.75. This essentially allows users to listen to a voice note from another conversation while texting in another chat window. As previously said, there is no word on when this functionality will be available to WhatsApp users on Android and the desktop/web app.
For quite some time, the Meta-owned instant messaging service has been testing the worldwide voice message player. It was originally seen on iOS last month, when it was made available to beta testers. The layout of the global voice message player for Apple devices is shown in a screenshot from the beta test. The player displays at the top of the screen, along with a progress bar that includes the user's name who provided the voice message. In addition, the player can play/pause and close the voice message.
Earlier this month, WhatsApp for desktop was also discovered to include a worldwide voice message player, identical to the one found on iOS. On the desktop version, however, the player is at the bottom of the chat lists.
The previous voice message upgrade for WhatsApp for iOS was the ability to pause and restart recording voice messages. The update effectively replaced the stop button when recording with the pause/resume button.
