Samsung promises four OS upgrades and five years of patching for its flagships in 2021 and 2022.

Last year, Samsung committed to providing four years of software support for its phones and tablets, which includes three major OS upgrades and four years of security patches. The pledge included flagships as well as models lower in the product range, such as the A and M series. Now, the corporation has opted to differentiate its flagship models by extending their life lives by one year.

This means that the recently unveiled Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Tab S8 devices will receive four new versions of Android OS and security fixes over the course of five years. Because they begin with Android 12, they should progress to Android 16 before receiving their final patch in 2027.

Owners of a 2021 Samsung flagship will benefit from the same software support timetable, which means they will receive one more OS upgrade and an additional year of updates than was previously expected. This covers the Z3 foldables as well as the flagship S21 series (including the S21 FE). The Galaxy S20 series and previous foldables, on the other hand, will continue to be released every four years.
