It hasn't even been a month since Samsung released the Galaxy S21 FE, and the device has already been plagued by a bug that is causing problems for users. Users of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE are reporting an issue with the smartphone's display, which appears to slow down out of nowhere. According to a dozen complaints on the Samsung forum, the Galaxy S21 FE's 120Hz display couldn't keep up with its promise at times, and the refresh rate dropped below 60Hz, causing major lags and frame drops across the entire UI.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Galaxy S21 FE's 6.5-inch AMOLED panel is not an LTPO panel. So the display can run at 120Hz or 60Hz, but the refresh rate appears to be dropping well below 60Hz, which isn't ideal.
When locking and unlocking the Galaxy S21 FE, a user with an Exynos-powered device notices that the refresh rate drops below 60Hz. The user also claims that disabling and enabling Power Saving mode, as well as setting the refresh rate to 60Hz and then back to 120Hz, restores normalcy. However, keep in mind that this appears to be more of a band-aid solution, and it may not be permanent.
We're not sure if the problem is caused by a problem with the Galaxy S21 FE's panel or by a software bug. If it's a software bug, Samsung may be able to fix it with an update, or they may have no choice but to offer a replacement. Samsung has yet to issue an official statement, but the growing number of complaints may provide insight into the problem.
