The OxygenOS 12 upgrade for the OnePlus 9R is now out, although as an open beta test. The smartphone, along with two other OnePlus 9-series smartphones, was released in India in March 2021. The OxygenOS 12 beta upgrade will add a slew of new features to the OnePlus 9R, including the Canvas always-on display (AOD) and Work Life Balance mode, among others. Because the OxygenOS 12 upgrade for the OnePlus 9R is a beta test, users should be aware that it may contain a few issues.
An official blog post introduced the OxygenOS 12 open beta upgrade for the OnePlus 9R (review). The upgrade is based on Android 12 and includes a slew of new Android-based functionality.
OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 beta update
OnePlus's budget-friendly flagship smartphone now has optimised desktop icons with better texturing. The OnePlus 9R also get an improved Dark Mode with three configurable settings. The smartphone's Shelf now has more Card design options, as well as new Earphone Control Card, OnePlus Scout, and OnePlus Watch Card.
OnePlus has also incorporated a Work Life Balance (WLB) function to the OnePlus 9R, which will be accessible to all customers after the OxygenOS 12 open beta test is over. Users will be able to switch between Work and Life modes via a toggle in the quick settings after the update. WLB 2.0 now offers location-based, Wi-Fi network-based, and time-based toggling between Work and Life modes.
Furthermore, users will be able to adjust the layout of the OnePlus 9R's Gallery using a two-finger pinch motion. It will aid in cropping images for thumbnails based on the content. The OxygenOS 12 open beta release also included the addition of the Canvas AOD. It now has several brushes and strokes, as well as colour adjustment support. It also features a better algorithm and face recognition.
OnePlus warns customers that because not all apps have been optimised for Android 12, they may occasionally fail. When AOD is turned on, the clock may not display the dial display. Users should also ensure that their smartphone has at least 30% battery life and at least 3GB of free storage space before installing the open beta update.
How to Install the OnePlus 9R OxygenOS 12 Beta Update
Users are urged to make a backup of their OnePlus 9R data. OnePlus does, however, state that the upgrade may not completely erase the data.
- Download the most recent ROM update zip file from the server mentioned.
- Transfer the ROM update package to your phone's storage.
- Navigate to Settings > System > System Updates > System Updates > Click the button in the upper right corner > Local upgrade > Upgrade may be accessed by clicking on the correct installation package.
- When the upgrade is finished, click Restart.
