Nothing is set in stone or formally confirmed at this time, however Huawei Consumer Business Group Strategy Marketing Department Vice President, Li Changzhou, recently stepped in on a community forum, confirming that the Huawei Mate 50 family will exist in the future.
This is significant not only for lovers of the brand, but also for Huawei in general, and depending on how you look at it, it might even be called a "return to form" for the Chinese conglomerate. Last year, Huawei only debuted a single flagship line - the P50 - which is a step back from prior years, when the Mate range offered a concurrent flagship portfolio.
As one may expect, Li Changzhou did not reveal any precise information. The discussion post he joined covered the company's forthcoming Spring 2022 Smart Office Live February 27 event, which is part of MWC 2022 and can be seen live here. He was responding to a fan who was hoping to see a Mate 50 at the event. The statement is roughly translated as follows: "The Mate 50 will be released, but not just now. At the moment, there are many more fantastic items worth considering."
That's sufficient for us, and it's the closest thing to an official reference of the Mate line we've seen in a long time. Some prior speculations stated that a new Huawei Mate handset may be released in June of this year. Take them with a grain of salt, but if this is the truth, any prospective Mate 50 will most likely be powered by a second-generation Snapdragon 8 chipset. Given the current condition of the law, it would have to be one that is limited to 4G connectivity. Unless, of course, something unexpected happens in the meantime. But all of this is just conjecture at this moment.
