Samsung held its first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year on Wednesday morning. Although the Galaxy S22 was the star of the show, Samsung also announced its next generation of tablets. Once again, leaks pre-empted Samsung's announcement of the Galaxy Tab S8, but the tablets are now official, and we have all the details.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the star of the show.
The Galaxy Tab S8 lineup is similar to the Galaxy S22 lineup in many aspects. In total, there are three new models, two of which are nearly identical to their predecessors and one with a significant overhaul. Let's start with the model that interests you the most.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is the company's first tablet to bear the Ultra brand. With its massive 14.6-inch Super AMOLED display and 120Hz refresh rate, it justifies that distinction. The Tab S8 Ultra features the thinnest bezels of any Samsung tablet to date, measuring just 6.3mm, but having the largest screen of any Samsung tablet to date.
The notch, which houses the dual 12-megapixel selfie cameras, is another design feature that distinguishes this model. This is Samsung's first device featuring a notch.
The Tab S8 Ultra will be available with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. A Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor and an 11,200mAh battery are also included in the Tab S8 Ultra.
Details on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and S8 Plus
The Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8 Plus are more standard enhancements to the Galaxy Tab S8 and Galaxy Tab S8 Plus. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 has an 11-inch LTPS TFT display, while the Galaxy Tab S8 Plus has a 12.4-inch Super AMOLED display. The Galaxy Tab S8 Plus has a larger battery than the Tab S8 (10,000mAh vs. 8,000mAh), and while the Plus and Ultra have fingerprint sensors embedded in the display, the Tab S8's scanner is located on the Side Key.
Aside from that, the three tablets should function identically. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor is found in all three devices. They're all powered by Android 12 and have the same 13-megapixel rear camera and 6-megapixel Ultra Wide lens.
In addition, Samsung is integrating a "new and better S Pen" with reduced latency than ever before. Clip Studio Paint was also a partner of the company.
