DJI debuted its Action 2 Camera in November, bringing an interchangeable and adaptive magnetic design for attachments, a reduced weight chassis, camera enhancements, and other changes for users who wish to document their activities.

In our most recent YouTube video, we put the DJI Action 2 through its paces to determine if it's worth the $399 price tag.

DJI is not new to the extreme sports filming sector, since the Action 2 is an update of the original Action camera. The new palm-sized variant is substantially smaller and lighter at 56 grammes, yet it remains dust proof, waterproof, and drop proof, making it suitable for use in a variety of conditions.

It has a 1/1.7-inch f/2.8 12-megapixel sensor that can shoot 4K video at up to 120 frames per second and a field of view of 155 degrees, allowing you to capture more of what's around you. The device has a 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen and a battery that can last up to 70 minutes.

The camera quality is comparable to other action cameras on the market, and may even lag behind the most recent GoPro Hero 10, but the stabilisation is competitive, and DJI wins in terms of form factor. The addition of magnets for attaching peripherals was a brilliant idea because it expands the Action 2's versatility.

The DJI Action 2 is compatible with a variety of attachments, including a Front Touchscreen Module, which increases battery life to 160 minutes and adds additional screen for vlogging, and a Power Module, which extends the camera's battery life to 180 minutes. DJI also offers a variety of mounts and adapters to accommodate a variety of use cases, as well as a waterproof case for underwater recording and a magnetic headband for head-mounted video.

There's also a magnetic necklace mount for wearing the camera on a blouse, as well as a macro lens for close-up images, yet the Action 2 is still small even with the accessories connected. The camera's compactness has one main drawback: heat dissipation. When filming at high frame rates and resolutions, it becomes hot and can overheat, causing it to shut down to cool down.

Overall, for $399, the DJI Action 2 is a great small camera worth considering for those seeking for a tiny, modular design factor, but those who want to record at the maximum resolution may want to think again due to heat problems.
