Apple has published macOS Monterey 12.2.1, a small bug patch update two weeks after the release of macOS Monterey 12.2.
The macOS Monterey 12.2.1 update is available for all eligible Macs via the Software Update section of System Preferences.
According to Apple's release notes, macOS Monterey 12.2.1 fixes a fault that caused Bluetooth devices connected to Macs to use an excessive amount of battery power.
Following the release of the macOS Monterey 12.2 update in late January, MacRumors began receiving numerous complaints from users who were experiencing excessive battery drain while in sleep mode, with the culprit appearing to be Bluetooth accessories that were frequently waking up the Macs to which they were connected.
After applying the macOS 12.2 update, several customers reported that their Mac's battery life dropped from 100% to 0% when in sleep mode overnight, affecting both Intel-based Macs and Apple silicon-based Macs. The issue was resolved when Bluetooth was turned off or when Bluetooth gadgets were detached from the Mac, which was not an acceptable solution for consumers.
Apple corrected the issue in macOS Monterey 12.3 beta 2 yesterday, but Mac users will no longer have to wait for the macOS Monterey 12.3 release to resolve their Bluetooth battery depletion concerns.
MacOS Monterey 12.2.1 also addresses a WebKit flaw that might allow maliciously generated web content to execute arbitrary code. Apple says it is aware of a tip that the vulnerability has been aggressively exploited, and that Mac customers should upgrade to the latest software as soon as possible.
Finally, Apple has published fresh Safari 15.3 versions for macOS Big Sur and Catalina users, likely to solve the same WebKit vulnerability patched in macOS Monterey 12.2.1.
