  • HP lead US PC shipments in 2021 with 25.9 million units.
  • In 2021, Apple delivered 10 million PCs, with notebook shipments likely to increase in 2023-24.
According to a market analysis organisation, Apple formerly held the top rank as the maker with the most tablet shipments in the United States. PC shipments increased by 1% year on year (YoY), despite a drop of roughly 30% in the fourth quarter of 2021. In the fourth quarter of 2021, almost 34 million PCs, laptops, workstations, and tablets were shipped in the United States. During the course of the year, almost 89 million of these PCs were distributed across the United States.

According to the most recent Canalys data, Apple maintained its dominance in the tablet industry in Q4 2021, as well as throughout the year, with a total of 19.1 million devices delivered across the United States. Shipments, on the other hand, fell by 17% year on year. Amazon and Samsung came in second and third, with 10.9 million and 7.9 million devices shipped, respectively. Microsoft and Lenovo came in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the tablet market. In 2021, 45.3 million tablets were distributed across the United States, a 10% decrease year on year.

However, HP won the entire PC shipment sector (desktop, notebook, and workstation) with 25.9 million units delivered and a 0.5 percent YoY rise. Dell, Lenovo, and Apple were close behind, with 22 million, 15.1 million, and 10 million devices supplied, respectively. All three firms increased by 6.5 percent, 11%, and 12% year on year, respectively. Total PC shipments, excluding tablets, totaled 89.7 million units, representing an 8.4 percent year-on-year increase.

According to the survey, laptop shipments fell precipitously as the market neared saturation. Notebook shipments in the United States fell by 73% year on year in Q4 2021. According to the report, notebook shipments — particularly in the education sector — will reach a new high in 2023-24 as school districts seek to replace devices purchased during the pandemic. The education sector may experience further growth in the first half of 2022, as certain institutions are anticipated to employ the $7.2 billion (approximately Rs. 54,445 crore) given under the Emergency Connectivity Fund to expand digital education.
